Welcome Luiz Faye
Kakana’s newest instructor, Luiz Faye, comes to us from Rotherham, England. An entrepreneur in her own right, she started Kronik Warrior Aromatherapy in response to her own life experiences. “I have a degenerative condition which affects the disks and joints in my spine, pelvis, and nerves in my legs. Although I had suffered from minor problems with my legs since childhood, this wasn’t diagnosed until it began to affect me much more in my late 20’s. By the age of 31, I was using crutches or a wheelchair to get around and due to this, I was medically retired from my 10-year career in the police service.”
While in rehab she was doing some lower limb exercises with her PT one day when she pointed to the punching bag in the corner of the gym and told him how she wished that she had given boxing a try. He simply replied, “why not do it in your wheelchair?!” Intrigued and excited by the thought, she went home and booked a class with a boxing coach. The rest, as they say, is history!
As Luiz trained, she started to see adaptive boxing as a way to help others, engage others, and build a fierce community around the sport she loved. She crafted her own way and style. “I’d say my training style is actually a training lifestyle. It’s not just about what you do in the gym. It’s what you eat, how well you sleep, rest, and the environment you live in. I try to live an ital. (clean) lifestyle, surround myself with good people, stay focused, and give it all 110%.”
Luiz practices what she preaches, as she has just completed her first adaptive fitness challenge (Superhero Series) by punching her way through the equivalent of 106km in 4 weeks! She brings that determination and monster personality to Kakana, where she says, “Every day in training I have the privilege of spending time with some of the most inspirational people I’ve ever met. Their strength, determination, and positive mental attitude are incredible.”
You can join Luiz for cardio boxing on Monday’s at 8 AM PST/11 AM EST, starting January 11th.
